It is said that the eyes are the windows to the soul. There are certain anatomical features that youthful eyes and brows display. The goal is to restore the patient’s once beautiful features that may have been lost over time. By paying close attention to these subtleties, a natural and non-operated appearance can be obtained.

This is especially true with male patients - who we must avoid feminizing with eyelid or brow surgery.

However, if the patient had undesirable or unfortunate brow and eyelid aesthetics to start, Dr. Ivey and the patient may knowingly decide to change the look of the patient in order to beautify the periorbital area. An arched brow, a slightly more open appearance to the eye, or a slight change in the canthal angle can be very attractive features in the right patient.

Rejuvenating the entire area including the brow, upper and lower lids, temples, and cheeks can provide a striking but natural result. In consultation Dr. Ivey will discuss with you how these delicate areas interplay and determine what procedure or combination is best for you.

Dr. Ivey performs a variety of upper and lower blepharoplasty techniques and brow lifting including endoscopic and minimally invasive options. This is often combined with fat grafting or fat transposition in order to give a well rested, refreshed appearance.

As the eyelids age, the fat pads of both the upper and lower lid tend to herniate or bulge out. This gives a tired appearance on the lower lids and creates shadows that are impossible to conceal with makeup. On the upper eyelid, the medial fat pads tend to herniate and the central fat pads tend to involute.

Eyelid and brow surgery are performed in our AAAHC accredited office or under local anesthesia with twilight sedation.

The Process:

01.Consultation:

First, you will arrive for your consultation at our clinic in Kihei, HI or you will log on for a telehealth video consultation if you reside off the island of Maui. 
During your consultation you will discover that Dr. Ivey is a generous and active listener who takes all the time necessary to assess your goals, answer questions, and curate a one-of-a-kind treatment plan for your successful outcome.

02.Procedure Plan:

After listening to your desired outcome and specific areas of concern Dr. Ivey discusses possible procedure options that will address these challenges. This helps to strengthen the communication between you and Dr. Ivey and leave no doubts about what your individual goals are vs. what is surgically possible.

03.Surgery Coordination:

Then you will meet the Patient Care Coordinator who will provide you with a surgical proposal and possible dates for your procedure. She will assist you throughout your journey from scheduling the procedure, adjusting clinic visits to fit your lifestyle, providing educational information related to your procedure and thorough pre and post operative care instructions to encourage optimal healing and recovery. Our team of surgical consultants are available to you via email, text, on the phone or in person to assist you in this journey.

04.Pre-Op Visit:

The next step is to experience your Pre Op Visit at our clinic. During this visit our office staff will guide you through the day of surgery expectations and you will meet with Dr. Ivey again to revisit the specific, individualized plan that he has for you. We encourage you to ask any questions you may have for the surgeon at this time.

05.Surgery Day:

The day of surgery starts at our AAAHC accredited surgery center in Kihei, HI. Once you are checked in you will begin by taking preoperative standardized photos. The surgical markings will follow the photos. Any last minute concerns may be addressed at this point and then Dr. Ivey will turn you over to the anesthesia and nursing team. An IV will be started and your anesthesia provider will review the plan with you and address any questions. Your OR team are dedicated to the safety of your surgery and your beautiful result. Your caregiver will be given appropriate notice in order to pick you up after you are recovered from anesthesia.

06.Post Operative Visit:

Depending on the surgery performed, follow up visit may occur as early as the following day. At this point dressings will be changed, sutures or drains will be removed, and all postoperative care will be discussed. The first 2 weeks may be filled with many visits depending on need. Then a 6 week and a 3 month follow up visit will be arranged. In the case of traveling patients a 6 week and 3 month telehealth visit will be arranged. At the three month visit postoperative photos will be taken. This is an exciting time to discuss and celebrate the early result with Dr. Ivey.
